Former England captain Michael Vaughan is known for stirring pots in between fans of different countries on Twitter with his loaded tweets and he has come up with another one, this time targeting the Indian national cricket team.
Michael Vaughan tweeted asking whether England captain Joe Root, who played his 100th Test in Chennai, received a signed jersey from the Indian team or not for reaching this huge milestone. He asked people to confirm the same, given that India’s stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane had gifted Nathan Lyon with a signed shirt when he played his 100th Test during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series down under.
Joe Root makes his 100th Test match special with a double ton
Joe Root, became the latest entrant into the 100 Tests club, when he walked out for a toss with India’s Virat Kohli at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, for the first of the four-match Test series. Root lighted up his milestone Test match with many records, including becoming the first batsman in Test history to score a double century in his 100th Test.
Root went on to make 218 runs as England piled on 578 runs in 1st innings. He also added 40 runs in the second innings, as England made 178, setting up a 420-run target for the Indian team. The Virat Kohli-led side failed to chase the target down, requiring 381 runs on the final day with 9 wickets to go. India was bundled for 192 and lost the match by 227 runs and England went 1-0 up in the series.
Joe Root also won the Player of the Match for his 218 and 40 and a brilliant catch to remove Ajinkya Rahane in the first innings as well.
Not sure if Joe Root received a signed shirt from the Indian team for his 100th Test: Michael Vaughan
46-year-old Michael Vaughan decided to bring up Joe Root’s milestone and the Indian team’s gesture for Australia’s Nathan Lyon, who received a signed team jersey from India captain Ajinkya Rahane. Vaughan asked generally whether any of the fans saw Joe Root receiving a similar memento from the Indian team after the toss.
“India gifted @NathLyon421 a signed shirt for his 100th Test at the end of the Gabba Win … Did @root66 receive one today after the loss ?? Not sure if it happened ? Can anyone confirm?,” Michael Vaughan tweeted.
