A major update has emerged on the pitch for the India vs England semifinal in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. The India vs England semifinal clash is scheduled to be played on March 5 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Before the big India vs England semifinal, it is being said that the pitch at Wankhede Stadium could be the same one used during the defending champions’ group match against the USA, as per a RevSportz journalist. That match was not easy for India as they won only by 29 runs on a slow and tricky Wankhede Stadium surface.

India vs England Pitch Report - ICC T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final

If the same surface is used again, it could create serious problems for aggressive players like Abhishek Sharma. He likes pace on the ball and attacking from ball one. But on a slow pitch, timing becomes difficult, and England has a strong attack, so India will need patience in the semifinal.

Mumbai pitch stuns Indian batters

Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is famous as a batting paradise, but for the India-USA game, the pitch told a different story. The ball moved a lot from the first over. Fast bowlers got swing with the new ball. The ball also held slightly on the surface, and batters found it hard to time their shots.

In the Powerplay, runs did not come easily. India fought hard to score 161 for 9 in 20 overs. It was not a huge total, but on that pitch, it looked decent.

The USA tried their best and finished at 132 for 8 in 20 overs. After India’s 29-run win, the team management expressed discontent with the pitch.

They prefer flat wickets where batters can play freely and score big runs. Now, it will be interesting to see whether the pitch curator makes any changes to the surface for the big semifinal clash.

India show why they are tournament favourites

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue remain one of the most dangerous teams in T20 cricket despite a few shaky moments in the tournament, including a close game against the USA and a crushing loss against South Africa. Since the end of the 2024 T20 World Cup, India has won 33 out of 41 matches.

In the ongoing tournament, India’s batting began slowly, but they found their rhythm at the right time. The defending champions smashed 256/4 against Zimbabwe in the Super 8 stage. In the last four overs of that match, they hit 69 runs.

India may not score the fastest in the middle overs, but at the death, they have hit 57 boundaries in the final four overs across games. The semifinal will take place at Wankhede Stadium, where India have not lost a T20 since 2017. With temperatures expected to touch 39 degrees, the heat will test fitness and focus.

England has won their last five matches and looks confident. The team is in good form and playing solid cricket. But facing India in India is a big challenge. Home conditions and crowd support give India a strong edge. England will also start as second favorites in this big clash.
