India End Day 1 of Fourth Test on 264/4 After Solid Batting Display
The visitors ended Day 1 of the fourth Test with a total of 264 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, with Ravindra Jadeja (19) and Shardul Thakur (19) at the crease. The visitors got off to a good start, with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) and KL Rahul (46) negotiating the opening session effectively.
Sai Sudharsan, who returned after missing two games, scored a patient 61 off 151 balls, including seven boundaries. Captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for 12 off 23 balls. Rishabh Pant contributed 37 off 48 deliveries before retiring hurt due to a foot injury, raising doubts over his participation in the rest of the match.
Shubman Gill's team will aim to post a strong first-innings total, with Washington Sundar expected to bat next. Meanwhile, England will look to capitalize on the second new ball and wrap up the Indian innings quickly to gain control.
Rishabh Pant’s Injury Raises Doubt Over His Participation
Rishabh Pant’s availability for the remainder of the fourth Test is uncertain, as the BCCI medical team continues to monitor his condition. The full extent of his foot injury will only be known after the scan results.
With Pant injured, Dhruv Jurel is expected to take over wicketkeeping duties at Old Trafford. Jurel also kept wickets during the third Test at Lord’s.
Pant has been one of the best performers for India in this series. He is currently the second-highest run-scorer for the visitors, with 462 runs at an average of 77, including two centuries and two fifties. He also became the first visiting wicketkeeper to score over 1000 Test runs in England.
