The rivalry between India and Pakistan remains one of the biggest attractions in international cricket. Pakistan held the edge in overall head-to-head numbers for much of the early years, but India have dominated their arch-rivals in multi-nation tournaments, including ICC World Cups and Asia Cup encounters.

The rivalry has produced several memorable matches across men's and women's cricket. India recently defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in Dubai in the Women's Asia Cup, bowling them out for just 55 runs. The Women in Blue chased down the target in just 8.4 overs and finished the group stage unbeaten.

India vs Pakistan Rivalry in Men’s ODI and T20 World Cups

India have maintained a dominant record against Pakistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, winning all eight meetings. The rivalry began in the 1992 World Cup in Sydney, and India continued their unbeaten run with a seven-wicket win in the 2023 edition in Ahmedabad.

The two teams have also met nine times in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with India leading 7-1. One match ended in a tie that India won in the bowl-out. Pakistan’s only T20 World Cup win came in 2021, but India have secured victories in the subsequent editions, including the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Across the ODI and T20 World Cups, India lead Pakistan 15-1. The record highlights India’s strong performances against their arch-rivals on the biggest global stage.

India Hold the Edge in Asia Cup, Champions Trophy

The Asia Cup has also favoured India, with the Men in Blue winning 12 of their 19 meetings against Pakistan. Pakistan have won six matches, while one ended without a result. India further strengthened their record by beating Pakistan in all three of their meetings during the 2025 Asia Cup.

The ICC Champions Trophy is a different story, with both teams winning three of their six encounters. Pakistan defeated India in the 2017 final at The Oval, but India responded with a victory over Pakistan in the group stage of the 2025 edition in Dubai.

The rivalry remains closely contested at the Under-19 level as well. India lead Pakistan 6-5 in ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup meetings, making it one of the more evenly matched contests between the two sides in age-group cricket.

India’s Dominance Continues in Women’s Cricket

India have a commanding record against Pakistan in women’s cricket. They are unbeaten in all 12 Women’s ODI meetings, including a 5-0 record in Women’s World Cup matches. In Women’s T20Is, India lead 15-3, while they hold a 7-2 advantage in T20 World Cup encounters and a 13-1 lead in the Women’s Asia Cup.

India recently extended that dominance in the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai. Sree Charani and Prema Rawat took three wickets each as Pakistan were bowled out for just 55 in 18.1 overs, their lowest total in Women’s T20Is. Deepti Sharma also claimed two wickets, while Shafali Verma took one.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana hit back with three wickets during India’s chase, dismissing Shafali Verma, Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana. However, India comfortably chased down the 56-run target in 8.4 overs, with Harmanpreet Kaur (18) and Deepti (12) unbeaten at the crease.
