Sri Lanka Police have continued full-scale security preparations for the match between India and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2026. As per reports, they have not received any official notification on the match being cancelled, and authorities are planning security arrangements for three major fixtures in Colombo.
India and Pakistan are in Group A of the T20I competition along with the Netherlands, Namibia, and the USA. The match between the two archrivals is scheduled to take place on February 15 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. However, there is uncertainty over whether the fixture will go ahead.
Pakistan’s India Match Boycott Leaves T20 World Cup Clash in Doubt
The Pakistan government has said the men’s team will not play against India in the T20 World Cup after Bangladesh was replaced with Scotland. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not formally informed the ICC about this decision.
Discussions are ongoing behind the scenes, but there is still no final clarity. Sri Lanka Cricket has urged the PCB to reconsider its stance, warning that cancelling the Colombo match would cause major financial losses, as it is one of the tournament’s biggest fixtures.
The India–Pakistan clash is among the highest-earning matches at ICC events, and the two teams are usually placed in the same group despite political tensions. With the boycott still not officially confirmed, uncertainty remains over what will happen if both sides reach the knockout stages.

Sri Lanka Police have continued preparations for the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match despite the uncertainty around the fixture. They have not received any official communication about the game being cancelled, so security planning is moving ahead as scheduled.
According to a Newswire report, the police are finalizing full security and traffic arrangements for February 15. Authorities have confirmed that special measures will be in place for three high-profile matches at the R Premadasa Stadium on Khettarama Road.
These plans remain unchanged even after the Pakistan government announced that its team would not take the field against India on February 15. Until any formal notice is issued, the Sri Lanka Police are preparing as if the match will go ahead.

A special traffic plan will operate around the stadium on all match days. Police will also run dedicated shuttle services for spectators. To manage crowds and ensure safety, 1,500 police officers and 600 traffic police personnel have already been deployed to protect both local and foreign fans.
On the cricketing front, India will start their World Cup campaign on February 7 against the USA in Mumbai. They will then face Namibia in New Delhi on February 12 before travelling to Colombo.
Meanwhile, Pakistan will feature in the tournament opener. They are scheduled to play the Netherlands in an afternoon match in Colombo on Saturday, February 7.
