Team India could be without some key players for the first T20I against South Africa as they are yet to link up with the team. The first T20I between South Africa and India is scheduled to take place on Sunday (December 10).

The Indian team arrived in Durban on Wednesday (December 6). However, several players are yet to arrive in the Rainbow Nation, according to a report in Cricbuzz. Star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has been touring Europe after the conclusion of the World Cup, is yet to join the team in South Africa. The veteran allrounder has been appointed the vice-captain of the T20I team.

Apart from him, opening batsman Shubman Gill has not arrived in Durban either. He is reportedly in the UK and is expected to join his teammates in South Africa soon. The report stated that both the players have taken permission from the BCCI to join the team, as has a member of the support staff. All of them are expected to be in Durban well in time before the first match on December 10. However, it won’t be surprising if the team management decides against playing them in the first game.

India likely to miss Deepak Chahar:

Fast-bowler Deepak Chahar has been named in both the white-ball squads but has not traveled to South Africa to be with his father who was recently hospitalized due to a medical emergency. Team India could miss his services as it is still not clear when the pacer will be able to fly to South Africa.

The report also stated that two selectors – SS Das and Sahil Ankola – are expected to fly to South Africa. The BCCI has decided to send two selectors because of two teams and a whole lot of matches, including T20Is, ODIs, Tests, and three India A games. Meanwhile, Team India will begin their preparation for the T20I series on Friday.
