The India National Cricket Team is all set to travel to Sri Lanka for an important two-match Test series in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle later this year.

India is already facing a crowded schedule, and now the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have locked in another Test series as they are gearing up to begin their international season after the conclusion of the ongoing IPL 2026.

India vs Sri Lanka Test series dates revealed

As reported by Cricbuzz, India and Sri Lanka are all set to play a two-match Test series in Australia, and this series will be part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. However, the official announcement of the WTC series has yet to be made by the BCCI and SLC.

But it is being said that the cricket boards have reportedly identified a two-week window between August 15 and August 27 for the matches for the red-ball series between the two Asian giants. The Test series is expected to take place after the conclusion of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), which is scheduled to end on August 9.

However, uncertainty still remains over the proposed three-match T20I series that was expected to be added to India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. This series was planned to raise funds for the people affected by Cyclone Ditwah last year. However, fitting those extra matches into India’s already packed calendar is becoming a big headache for both Sri Lanka Cricket and the BCCI.

Devajit Saikia visits Sri Lanka amid major administration changes

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia is currently in Sri Lanka as part of an ICC delegation to assess the situation in Sri Lankan cricket after major administrative changes made by the Sri Lankan president, Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The government formed an interim body called the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee to manage cricket operations in the country. There is a strong possibility that the committee could discuss the India series and the proposed T20 matches with Saikia during his visit.

India’s jam-packed schedule creates big headache for BCCI

Well, India’s packed schedule is now creating major headaches for the boards. In September, the Men in Blue are expected to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is. However, even that tour is not fully confirmed yet because it was postponed last year due to tensions between the two countries.

While reports suggest relations between India and Bangladesh are slowly improving, there is still uncertainty over whether the series will finally happen this year. After the Bangladesh tour, India is also scheduled to play a home series against the West Indies, and then the Asian Games are also expected to take place between late September and early October.

Afghanistan series to begin India’s busy calendar

Before that, they are also set to play a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in the UAE during September. Because of so many tours and tournaments packed together, managing player workload and scheduling is becoming a huge challenge for the BCCI.

Before travelling to Sri Lanka, India will return to action on June 6 with a one-off test against Afghanistan, followed by three ODIs. After that, the men in blue are scheduled to tour Ireland, England, and Zimbabwe before finally heading to Sri Lanka.
