The West Indies are set to begin preparations for their two-match Test tour of India with a week-long training camp at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has granted approval for both the camp and a practice match, following a request from the West Indies Cricket Board.
India will host the West Indies for a two-Test series from October 2 to 14, 2025. Notably, it will be the Caribbean side’s first red-ball tour of the country since 2018–19. The matches will be played in Ahmedabad and Delhi.
As per the schedule, the opening Test is slated to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium from October 2 to 6. It will also mark the beginning of India’s 2025-26 home international season, which includes the series against South Africa.
West Indies to Hold Week-Long Camp in Ahmedabad Ahead of India Test Series
According to a report by the Times of India, the West Indies Cricket Board asked the BCCI for permission to conduct a week-long training camp and a warm-up match in Ahmedabad ahead of their Test series in India.
Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) secretary Anil Patel stated that the BCCI approved the request. The GCA confirmed that they were happy to host the West Indies side for both the camp and the preparatory match.
"The West Indies Cricket Board requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India if the Caribbean team could hold a one-week camp and play a practice match in Ahmedabad to prepare for the series.
The BCCI has agreed to their request after checking with us. We said that we were happy to host the West Indies team for the camp and the warm-up match here," Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel told TOI on Friday.
West Indies Likely to Play Warm-Up Match Before Test Series, Opponent Yet to Be Finalised
The second and final Test of the India–West Indies series will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10 to 14.
Ahead of the series, the West Indies are expected to play a warm-up match. The report added that their opponent has not yet been confirmed. It could either be a Gujarat state team or a side selected by the BCCI.
The West Indies, led by all-rounder Roston Chase and coached by former cricketer Daren Sammy, are coming off a disappointing home series against Australia. They lost all three Tests and were bundled out for just 27 runs in the second innings of the final pink-ball Test at Sabina Park.
India Playing Five-Match Test Series Against England
Meanwhile, the Indian national cricket team is currently playing a five-match Test series against England, which began at Headingley in Leeds on June 20. The visitors suffered a five-wicket loss in the series opener after failing to defend a target of 371 runs.
However, they bounced back with a commanding victory in the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, winning by 336 runs - their biggest Test win by runs away from home. The team, though, couldn’t maintain that momentum and suffered a narrow 22-run defeat in the third Test at Lord’s.
India are now on the verge of losing the series during the ongoing fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. After being asked to bat first, they were bowled out for 358. In reply, England posted 554/7 in their first innings, taking a 186-run lead.
