Former Indian keeper-batsman Parthiv Patel believes India should have the upper hand in the Test series against England. India and England will clash in five Tests starting from the 4th of August in Nottingham and the latter are currently playing a warm-up match in Durham. Parthiv Patel underlined that the tourists’ pace attack gives them a better chance of beating England.

India’s pace-bowling attack is one of the best currently as they are capable of taking wickets on any track. The likes of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah are experienced and have different strengths bringing to the table. Furthermore, their bench strength is equally excellent, consisting of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur.

England’s batting line-up that struggled against New Zealand in the Test series in June and suffered a series loss face a litmus test. While the hosts have accumulated a full-strength squad, it would still not be easy to counter India’s pace-bowling unit. Skipper Joe Root has to make a significant contribution if England is to prevent a second successive series loss at home.

Parthiv Patel underlined that India are better prepared for the Test series against England than in the ICC World Test Championship final. The 36-year old observed that even though India did not win in England in 2018, they performed well and their bowling unit is fantastic. Hence, he expects them to beat Joe Root’s side.

“I think India has a good chance in the Test series because they will be much better prepared than what they were in the World Test Championship Final. I think they did really well there last tour although they didn’t win. I think if you see India’s pace attack right now it will be right up there with any international side. India will start as favourites in this series,” Patel told on the The Curtly and Karishma Show.
