India Women's squad for Sri Lanka T20I series announced; Smriti Mandhana selected

On Tuesday, December 9, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad of the India Women's National Cricket Team for the upcoming T20I series against the Sri Lanka Women's National Cricket Team.

The Sri Lanka Women's National Cricket Team and the India Women's National Cricket Team are all set to lock horns with each other in a high-octane five-match T20I series in December 2025.

Harmanpreet Kaur is set to lead the Women In Blue in the series against Sri Lanka, and she will be supported by her deputy, Smriti Mandhana, in the leadership department.

Smriti Mandhana features in the squad days after facing a personal tragedy, as she recently called off her wedding with Palash Muchhal, and the internet is filled with speculations over why the event was cancelled.

Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, and Renuka Singh Thakur also feature in the team.

Another major name in the squad is - Shafali Verma - who shone for India in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 final. Richa Ghosh and Kamalini are two wicket-keepers in the squad.

"The Women's Selection Committee has picked India’s squad for the upcoming IDFC First Bank five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka Women," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in an official media release.

World Cup winner rewarded with ₹1.5 crore

Recently, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta rewarded batter Pratika Rawal with ₹1.5 crore for her contributions in India's ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph.

"Today, at the chief minister’s Jan Seva Sadan, we welcomed the talented young player of the Indian women’s cricket team, Pratika Rawal. Our brilliant daughter [Pratika] has made Delhi proud. In recognition of her commitment to the sport and her outstanding performance, the Delhi government will award her a prize of ₹1.5 crore,” Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta wrote on X.

“Her [Pratika Rawal] journey shows that Delhi not only gives birth to dreams but also helps them take flight. Heartiest wishes for her bright future,” the CM said while praising Rawal, who scored 308 runs in the competition before getting ruled out.

Meanwhile, Rawal took to X to state that the cash prize acts as a big motivational factor for her.

“Delhi has always given me the confidence to move forward, and this honour received today from your [Rekha Gupta] hands fill me with even more energy, dedication, and responsibility. I promise that in the coming times, I will continue to work with full dedication to take the name of the country and Delhi even higher on the international stage,” Rawal wrote on X.
