India Women's Team To Play Their Maiden Pink Ball Test In Australia Later This Year

There is more Test cricket in store for the India Women’s team after their maiden outing in the format in 7 years against England in the upcoming summer as the Mithali Raj-led unit will be locking horns with Australia in a Pink ball Test Down Under later this year.

The announcement was made by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah on his official Twitter account.

Team India will travel to Australia later this year where they will lock horns with the T20 World Champions in a series of white-ball internationals (ODIs + T20Is) along with their first-ever day-night Test.

This will be the Women in Blue’s first Test against Australia since 2006. Announcing the decision on Twitter, Jay Shah wrote-

“Taking forward our commitment towards women’s cricket, I am extremely pleased to announce that Team India @BCCIwomen will play in their first-ever pink ball day-night Test later this year in Australia.”

Earlier a BCCI official had told news agency PTI that Test matches involving the Indian Women’s team will be a regular affair now with a one-off Test slotted against Australia and England every year.

“England and Australia are the two teams that still play Tests and going forward you will see a Test slotted in when they visit India or when India tour the two countries,” a BCCI official told PTI on Tuesday.

“The idea was floated on the sidelines of the men’s pink-ball Test and later discussed in the Apex Council meeting (last month).” the official added.

The Indian Women’s team will be traveling to England alongside their men counterparts on June 02 where they will kickstart their sojourn will start with the one-off Test at Bristol from July 16.

The schedule for the Australian series, however, is yet to be released.
