Gill scored 269 runs against England in the second game of the five-match series at Edgbaston, which was also his first double hundred in Test cricket.

Gill broke several records on his way to his maiden double century, which includes the highest Test score by an Indian captain, surpassing Kohli's innings of 254 runs, which he played against South Africa in Pune in 2019.

Virat Kohli

India's most successful captain in Test cricket, Virat Kohli, also finds himself in the list of Indian captains to score a double century in Tests.

Former Indian wicketkeeper batter and captain MS Dhoni played an inning of 224 runs on a challenging wicket in Chennai, which is also his highest score in Test cricket.

MS Dhoni became the fourth Indian captain to score a double century in Test cricket and guided the team to a hard-fought win.

Sachin Tendulkar

The poster boy of Indian cricket in the 90s, Sachin Tendulkar, led India for the first time in a Test match against Australia in 1996.

Although Sachin captained India in a handful of games in his short stint as the captain of India, he was able to contribute with the bat during that period as well.

Sachin scored a double run as the captain of the team in a series against New Zealand in 1999.

Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar also scored a double century as the captain of the Indian team against the West Indies in 1978 at his home ground in Mumbai to help India draw the match.

Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi

Tiger Pataudi, as he was famously known, was the first Indian captain to score a Test double ton.

The innings in question came against England, where he fought his way to score 203 runs and remained unbeaten.
