Tom Harrison, chief of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has admitted that he cannot provide any guarantee that players from India or Windies will be available to take part in the Hundred, a brainchild of ECB.

Meanwhile, the eight new city-based teams will play in The Hundred over five weeks in the summer of 2020. The white-ball competition will be 100 balls per innings, with a change of ends after ten deliveries. In addition to, a bowler can bowl five or ten deliveries at a stretch with a maximum of 20 balls per game.

A 25-ball powerplay start for each team.while two fielders can field outside of the initial 30-yard circle during the powerplay. However, it has garnered a mixed reaction among the current and former players. While players like Stuart Broad and ex-cricketer Andrew Strauss backed the new tournament saying that it will be targeting the kids and mothers during summers, Virat Kohli feels that there is no need for a new form.

It will be a difficult conversation

Tom Harrison in a chat expressed that he cannot guarantee the participation of Indian cricketers as of now. He also added that it would be a difficult and a much wider decision than just ECB keen to get the Indian players.

I cannot commit to the involvement of India players. It is a political conversation as much as anything“, ESPN Cricinfo quoted Harrison as saying. “It is a difficult conversation. But it is not just the ECB and The Hundred that will be keen to get Indian players involved. Clearly, that’s a wider discussion,” he added.

The Indian players have been a part of county cricket before, but if BCCI agrees to allow Indian players to take part in one such league, there are chances that players would ask the board to take part in other leagues as well. Currently, Indian players need a NOC to participate in leagues organised by different countries.
