Abhishek Sharma slammed a brutal half-century with the bat in the first IND vs ENG T20I
Abhishek opened the innings for his team and made a mockery of the 133-run chase. He went after the England National Cricket Team bowlers and slammed them all over the park, oozing his class with the bat and hitting sixes and fours for fun.
Abhishek slammed a brutal half-century with the bat and got to his fifty in just 20 balls. The batter ended with an innings of 79 off just 34 balls to go with 5 fours and 8 sixes, batting with a strike rate of over 232 and helping the team chase the target inside 13 overs.
You've got to be very careful about talent like Abhishek Sharma - Sanjay Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar talked about Abhishek Sharma, saying that India needs to be careful with the batter, who consistently scores 50 at a strike rate of over 200. He stressed that the batter would be taking a lot of risks and wouldn't worry about getting out. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he said:
"The ability to do so consistently rack up these 50 plus scores at strike rates way ahead of 200. Now, this is where you know you've got to be very careful about talent like Abhishek Sharma, and we mentioned that in the preview because we see that in about what 10-15 innings, and now for India, he's got three scores of this and a lot of low scores in the middle.
"So he's somebody who's going to take a lot of risks. He's not going to worry about getting out even toward the end when he was playing those shots. It was almost like he was tempting fate in the way he was batting. So he's that kind of a batter, but when he gets going, this is what he does."
If you continue batting in this fashion where there is really throwing caution to the wind, then you won't get consistency - Sanjay Manjrekar on Abhishek Sharma
Sanjay Manjrekar further stressed that with the way Abhishek Sharma bats, he won't be able to become consistent. While talking about how India needs to handle the young batter, he added:
"So you've got to if you continue batting in this fashion where there is really throwing caution to the wind, then you won't get consistency. Maybe that will come with maturity, but that should not be held against him because then the others can, you know, chip in when he fails. Now he's got a hundred, he's got a 50, and now the 70 odd, and it's, and two of those innings have come against a good bowling attack last for South Africa this England.
"Young man and just the confidence of youth who play the IPL which is an important reason that they don't get too unnerved by all these big foreign names like we used to during our playing days because they have actually been around them a lot and on occasions have even you know belted them around the park in the IPL."
