Indian umpire stabbed to death amid IPL 2026
In a latest shocking incident during a local match in Visakhapatnam, a minor run-out scandal led to a major fiasco as the 21-year-old umpire was brutally stabbed to death following the decision.
Umpires do not play the game, but they play a very essential regulatory role in a cricket match. However, not only in international or IPL matches but also in local matches, umpires play a role. These local matches in India are responsible for sustaining interest in the game.
These local matches, however, have not always kept the spirit of the game alive. The friendliness of these players was not evident in the game, where a shocking incident left the cricketing world aghast.
Umpire dies during local match after dubious run-out call
In a shocking incident during a local match at Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam, a minor dispute resulted in the death of a 21-year-old umpire who was assigned such duties during the game. The local police stated that the man was stabbed to death following a massive dispute after the run-out decision.
As reported by NDTV, victim Dola Ajith Babu was officiating in a local match on Sunday, alongside his friend Budumuri Chiranjeevi, and during that time, a massive argument broke out between players from two localities; however, no one would have imagined the treacherous outcome.
As per police sources to NDTV, the umpires had intervened promptly and managed to defuse the situation on the field. However, even after the umpires stepped aside, they did not fully subside.

Spectator Kanta Kishore stabs the umpire after the match
A spectator of the game, a man named Kanta Kishore, who did not have anything to do with either of the two teams. The man allegedly started abusing, and when the match eventually concluded, the matter escalated to a huge extent.
Police reported that the umpires called him to a nearby spot, and under the pretext of settling the dispute, he further escalated the issue, which led to a massive massacre. “Another argument broke out, and Kishore suddenly pulled out a knife and attacked them," a police officer told NDTV.
The umpire, Ajith Babu, sustained a stab wound to the chest and collapsed instantly on the spot. Chiranjeevi, his friend, was also injured while trying to rescue the other. All the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, while Ajith Babu was declared dead after he was shifted to Apollo Hospital.
Police registered a Murder case following the victim's father's complaint
Quoting the victim's brother, NDTV reported that the dispute over a single run had already been resolved earlier by the elders in the village. However, the accused allegedly returned later under the influence of alcohol and attacked with premeditated intent.
The complaint regarding it was filed by the victim's father, Dola Appala Raju, to the police, who then booked him under a murder case. He was booked under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. They have also started a manhunt to trace him, as he has been absconding since the incident.
