Legendary West Indies fast bowler Andy Roberts has hailed Mohammed Shami for his skills and made a stunning claim that he is India's best bowler currently. Roberts called Shami a complete package despite Jasprit Bumrah getting more wickets than him.

The former West Indian quick also shared his views on Mohammed Siraj's bowling. Roberts feels that Siraj is not even close to Shami in terms of skills and performance. He backed Mohammed Shami to play in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy ahead of Mohammed Siraj.

Andy Roberts was a part of the legendary pack of West Indies fast bowlers that terrorized the opposition batting line-ups for several years. Roberts formed a great pair with other greats like Michael Holding, Joel Garner, Malcolm Marshall, and Colin Croft during his time.

Andy Roberts labels Mohammed Shami as "India’s best bowler"

While speaking to Mid-Day, Andy Roberts labelled Mohammed Shami as India's best bowler, even ahead of Jasprit Bumrah. The former West Indies quick reckons that Bumrah might get the wickets but Shami remains the best because he is a complete package of skills.

“(Mohammed) Shami has been India’s best bowler for a while. He may not get the amount of wickets Jasprit Bumrah gets, but he’s the full package and is more consistent than the rest. Shami swings the ball, Shami seams the ball and Shami’s control is as good as Bumrah’s," Roberts said.

Both Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been carrying the burden of India's fast bowling for years now. This pair is one of the most devastating bowling pairs in world cricket and has achieved several milestones for India together.

Andy Roberts speaks on Mohammed Siraj

Meanwhile, Andy Roberts also shared his views on Mohammed Siraj's bowling. Roberts wasn't entirely convinced by Siraj and claimed that he was nowhere close to Shami. He even backed Shami to play ahead of Siraj in the ongoing Test series against Australia if he becomes fit.

"Shami should play. Mohammed Siraj is nowhere near Shami,” Roberts reckoned.

Mohammed Siraj is India's second-best pacer after Jasprit Bumrah in the absence of Mohammed Shami in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He had underwhelming figures in Adelaide, having finished with 4-98, and is under pressure to perform in the remaining games.

When will Mohammed Shami make an international comeback?

Mohammed Shami hasn't played international cricket since the ODI World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad. The 34-year-old Bengal pacer had an Achilles heel surgery earlier in 2024 due to which he missed important tournaments like IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup 2024.

Shami was earlier stated to be a part of India's squad in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but missed out due to swelling in his knee when he was in rehabilitation. However, India's captain Rohit Sharma has hinted that he can still come into India's squad by saying, "doors are always open for Shami".
