Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir made a massive statement on whether he is going to be the next head coach of the Indian cricket team. The former India cricketer stated that it is difficult for him to answer this question as he doesn't see too far ahead.

Gautam Gambhir has been one of the prime candidates to take the mantle of the Indian team from Rahul Dravid as the head coach. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor reportedly was interviewed by the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) recently for the post.

Ever since BCCI released the applications for the coaching role, Gautam Gambhir has been in the talks for the role. There have been several reports that claimed that the Kolkata Knight Riders mentor has already been finalized by the governing body and he will be taking charge of the team soon.

He seemed to be the only candidate for the role but on the day of the interview, it was learned that WV Raman was also in contention. The reports claimed former women's team head coach was also interviewed and his presentation left the CAC committee impressed.

BCCI reportedly is split for choice between Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman. It was also learned that there are chances that both the former cricketers will join the team. While Gambhir might take up the head coach role, Raman may get the nod as batting coach of the Indian National Cricket Team.

However, with all the speculations about Gautam Gambhir's appointment as the head coach of the India team, the Kolkata Knight Riders mentor confirmed that he has no confirmation as of yet. Speaking to PTI, he said: "I don't see that far ahead, difficult to answer right now".

Earlier there were reports that both BCCI and Gautam Gambhir share the same belief they must do for the nation. The governing body was impressed with the way, he mentored Kolkata Knight Riders and took them to the third title win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Gautam Gambhir's record as mentor in Indian Premier batter

If Gautam Gambhir becomes the head coach of the Indian team, he will be joining the team as a coach with very little experience. But he has done incredibly well as the mentor of the franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the last few years.

Gautam Gambhir first served as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants in 2022. He guided the team to the playoffs in his very first edition in the role and then continued doing a good job in the next edition, where he again took to the playoffs for the second straight edition.

Ahead of the IPL 2024, Gautam Gambhir was roped in as a mentor by Kolkata Knight Riders and he made an instant impact. He instilled a fearless attitude in the players and made them play a sensational brand of cricket, taking them to the title win, their third in the league.
