The 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) will resume in the United Arab Emirates in the third week of September.

But with almost every team having international commitments at the time, a number of overseas cricketers might not be available for the UAE-leg of the lucrative league.

If that happens, then the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), just like other franchises could be without a plethora of their crucial foreign recruits which may jeopardize their campaign.

On that note, here’s a look at 4 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Players Who Might Miss The UAE Leg Of The IPL 2021:

Sam Curran

Sam Curran has impinged himself as one of the crucial players in the Chennai Super Kings set-up courtesy of his consistent performances with both bat and ball since he made his debut for the franchise in 2020.

Curran was in the midst of yet another brilliant season before the IPL got suspended due to Covid.

In 7 games, the left-arm seam-bowling all-rounder claimed 9 wickets at 24.11 besides smashing 58 crucial runs in the lower-order at a strike rate of 208.

But, Curran might not be available for the UAE leg as England Director of Cricket, Ashley Giles has made it clear that no English player will be allowed to feature in the IPL even if they are not playing for the national side at the time.

England are likely to travel to Bangladesh and Pakistan for white-ball fixtures before the T20 World Cup.

“We have a full schedule if we go from the end of the fifth Test in September. We are set to leave for Bangladesh in the next couple of days. We have a full schedule right through, including Pakistan and wherever the T20 World Cup is,” said Giles.

“We are going to have to give some of these guys a break at some point. But the intention of giving guys a break for, say, Bangladesh wouldn’t be for them to go and play cricket elsewhere,” he said.

“We have to manage our schedule now, so we get our guys arriving in the best shape possible for the T20 World Cup and Ashes,” added Giles.

Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali was in the midst of a brilliant season for the Chennai Super Kings before the IPL got suspended due to Covid.

Batting at N0.3, Ali made the most of his opportunities and displayed his precocious talent to the hilt.

In 6 games, Ali smashed 206 runs at an average of 34.33 and a blistering strike rate of 157.25. He also claimed five wickets in as many innings at an average of 14.80 and an economy rate of 6.16.

If Ali, like other English cricketers, is not allowed to feature in the UAE-leg of the IPL by the ECB, it will be a monumental blow for the MS Dhoni-led CSK.

Jason Behrendorff

You’ ve got to feel for Jason Behrendorff. The lanky left-arm pacer from Australia was signed as Josh Hazlewood’s replacement at the start of the 14th season by the Chennai Super Kings.

The left-hander completed his mandatory quarantine after he landed in India but did not get a single game and then the IPL got suspended.

We still do not know whether the Australian players will be allowed to feature during the UAE-leg of the 14th season. And, if they aren’t, Behrendorff season may well be over even before it started.

Mitchell Santner

Mitchell Santner has spent most of the time warming the bench in the IPL ever since he was picked up by the Chennai Super Kings.

Santner is New Zealand’s premier spinner in the white-ball format and with the Kiwis set to play a series of white-ball fixtures against Pakistan around the same time, we may not see the left-arm spinner take part in the UAE-leg of the  14th season.
