Delhi Capitals will commence their IPL 2021 journey on April 10 against Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The team suffered a big blow after skipper Shreyas Iyer was ousted from the tournament due to an injury. The franchisee nominated Rishabh Pant as the new skipper for the team in IPL 2021. Last year, Delhi Capitals showed a great performance and reached the finals, where they lost to Mumbai Indians.

Ahead of IPL 2021 auction, Delhi Capitals released 6 players from the squad namely Alex Carey, Keemo Paul, Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mohit Sharma, and Jason Roy. During IPL 2021 auction, Delhi Capitals bought 8 players in their squad. Out of these, there are 3 overseas players and 5 domestic players. Steve Smith was bought by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 auction. He was bought for Rs. 2.2 crore. After the ouster of Shreyas Iyer, Steve Smith will have a bigger role to play. The Australian cricketer will give great assistance to Rishabh Pant for the captainship. Also, he will be expected to contribute with the bat. Steve Smith was skipper of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020 but was released by the franchise after the team finished on the last 8th spot in the tournament. Steve Smith is one player who will definitely play for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021.

Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav was another player Delhi Capitals bought in IPL 2021 auction. Umesh Yadav has a lot of experience in the Indian Premier League. He is consistently part of IPL since 2010. In 121 matches, he has grabbed 119 wickets. Last season, he played only 2 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore where he remained wicket-less. He had a great season in IPL 2017 and IPL 2018 when he scalped 17 and 20 wickets respectively. Since Kagiso Rabada will miss the first week of IPL 2021 due to quarantine protocols, Umesh Yadav is highly expected to get an opportunity to bowl for Delhi Capitals.

Tom Curran

Tom Curran was the biggest buy for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 auction at Rs. 5.25 crore. The English all-rounder played 5 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2018, in which he got 6 wickets and scored 18 runs. In IPL 2020, he played 5 matches for Rajasthan Royals and bagged 3 wickets, along with an unbeaten fifty in one match. Tom Curran is an exception all-rounder in Delhi Capitals and he will make a debut for the team in IPL 2021.

Lalit Yadav

Lalit Yadav was bought by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 auction but did not play a match in the tournament. He is another player who can make a debut for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021. He is an all-rounder who plays for Delhi at the domestic level. So far, he has played 35 T20 matches in which he has scored 560 runs and grabbed 27 wickets.

Lukman Meriwala

Lukman Meriwala is another bowler which Delhi Capitals bought in IPL 2021 auction. He was bought for Rs. 20 lakh during IPL 2021 auction. He is a left-arm pacer who plays for Baroda at the domestic level. In 44 T20 matches, he has grabbed 72 wickets. With such great stats in the T20 format, Delhi Capitals went forward to buy him in the auction. He is another player who can make a debut for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021.
