IPL 2021: Aakash Chopra Questions Eoin Morgan's Captaincy After KKR Skipper Uses Spinners During Powerplay Overs At Wankhede Pitch Against CSK

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has questioned Eoin Morgan’s captaincy for using spinners against Chennai Super Kings in powerplay overs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Eoin Morgan used spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine during the powerplay overs in the IPL 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings.
Kolkata Knight Riders lost the match to Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs. CSK posted a gigantic total of 220-3 batting first. Later, Kolkata Knight Riders lost their top 5 wickets within the powerplay overs. Later, Andre Russell (54) and Pat Cummins (66) smashed half-centuries to keep winning hopes alive for KKR. However, KKR were ultimately bowled out for 202 in the end.
Not Able To Understand Eoin Morgan’s Captaincy: Aakash Chopra
While speaking about the CSK vs KKR match on his Youtube video, Indian commentator Aakash Chopra said that he didn’t understand why Eoin Morgan used spinners in the powerplay overs at the Wankhede pitch.
“I am still not able to understand Eoin Morgan’s captaincy because this is the only team which has bowled spin in the powerplay overs on this pitch. Everyone comes here and bowls the fast bowlers and gets wickets. Deepak Chahar took wickets in the second innings, so you should bowl the fast bowlers in the first innings at least,” said Aakash Chopra.
Aakash Chopra also said that using spinners in powerplay overs at Wankhede Stadium is out of the box thinking but he is unable to understand it.
“He started with Varun Chakravarthy and after that we also saw Sunil Narine in the powerplay. If you keep bowling spin in the powerplay, it is an out of the box thinking but I am not able to understand it,” Aakash Chopra further said.
Eoin Morgan’s use of spinners in the powerplay overs did not yield any positive results as both the CSK openers managed to keep their wickets and hit many runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis made an opening partnership of 115 runs in 12.2 overs. Both of them also managed to hit a half-century with Gaikwad hitting 64 and Plessis scoring 95.
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings used pacers in the powerplay overs that helped them to dismantle KKR’s top order. Deepak Chahar led the pace attack in the powerplay overs and managed to scalp the first four wickets of Kolkata Knight Riders. Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a batting collapse at the start, losing 5 wickets for just 31 runs.
