Australian all-rounder and one of the greatest T20 players to have ever played the format, Daniel Christian, will make a return to the Indian Premier League [IPL] after he was racked up for Rs 4.80 Crore by the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore following a serious bidding war in the IPL 2021 Auction.
Christain, who had listed himself at a base price of Rs 75 Lakh, caused yet another bidding war as the likes of Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore went hammer and tongs to avail the service of the elite all-rounder in the shortest format of the game.
Kolkata Knight Riders placed the initial bid at Daniel Christian’s base price of Rs 75 Lakh, which was bettered by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who bid Rs 80 Lakh. The bidding war gradually heated up as the price for the Australian went past the Crore mark.
Eventually, it was the Virat Kohli-led RCB, who claimed the service of Daniel Christian for a sum of Rs 4.80 Crores.
Daniel Christian is, of course, no stranger to the IPL. The former Australian international made his Indian Premier League debut way back in 2011 when he was claimed by the now-defunct Deccan Chargers.
Christain represented the Deccan Chargers in the 2011 and 2012 editions of the cash-rich league. He was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2013 season.
The Australian endured a four-year hiatus before he was picked by the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant for the 2017 season before being picked by Delhi Capitals in the 2018 IPL auction. Christain played a stellar role with both bat and ball in the triumphant 2020/21 Big Bash League campaign for the Sydney Sixers.
The all-rounder smashed 272 runs in 14 innings at an average of 34 and a strike-rate of 182 besides claiming 15 wickets at 26.83. Overall, Daniel Christian has featured in 342 T20 games, in which he has scored 5116 runs at an average of 23.79 besides claiming 255 wickets at an average of 28.48.
