Rajasthan Royals bought 8 players in IPL 2021 auction after spending Rs. 24.20 crore. The franchisee had a salary cap of Rs. 34.85 crore available during the auction. Rajasthan Royals made the highest-ever bid for a player in the history of IPL auctions. Chris Morris became the costliest-ever player in IPL auction after Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs. 16.25 crore. Rajasthan Royals purchases 5 domestic players and 3 overseas players in the auction.

Shivam Dube was another big purchase for Rajasthan Royals. The Indian all-rounder was bought for Rs. 4.4 crore. Chris Morris and Shivam Dube were both released by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2021 auction. Rajasthan also invested Rs. 1 crore to pick Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman in their team.

After the auction, Rajasthan Royals has 24 players in their squad, one less than the maximum permissible limit of 25. Rajasthan Royals won the debut season of IPL in 2008, however, they are yet to claim another title in the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals had retained 17 players in the team ahead of IPL 2021 auction. The list of retained players for Rajasthan includes Sanju Samson, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Mahipal Lomror, Manan Vohra, Mayank Markande, Rahul Tewatia, Riyan Parag, Shreyas Gopal, Robin Uthappa, Jaydev Unadkat, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Anuj Rawat, Kartik Tyagi, David Miller and Andrew Tye. Talking about the released players, Rajasthan Royals parted ways with 8 players who are Steve Smith, Akash Singh, Anirudha Joshi, Ankit Rajpoot, Oshane Thomas, Shashank Singh, Tom Curran and Varun Aaron.
