Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith entered the IPL 2021 auction at a base price of INR 2 crores after facing a release from Rajasthan Royals. Steve Smith, who captained the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020, could not live up to the expectations as the franchise finished on the bottom of the points table. For the second successive season, they could not reach the playoffs.
Steve Smith’s form with the bat also remained inconsistent, notching up three half-centuries at 25.92 in 14 matches. While the 31-year old was in decent nick in the home T20I series against India, it stays unclear whether he will find any bidders. Smith’s overall IPL career includes having starred in 95 matches and managing 2333 runs at 35.35 with 11 fifties and one century.
Steve Smith will be keen to attain high bids in IPL 2021 auction:
Considering his form in IPL 2020, Steve Smith would be eager to crack the code of performing consistently in IPL. The right-handed batsman’s best tournament in the extravaganza was the 2017 edition when he hammered 472 runs for the Rising Pune Supergiants. A team like Chennai Super Kings could avail his services as the three-time champions have actively promoted veteran and experienced players.
With the BCCI managing to conduct the 13th edition of IPL amid all uncertainties in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the stage is already setting for the 14th. As the Covid-19 outbreak has come under reasonable control one year after its emergence, the BCCI is willing to conduct the tournament in India itself. However, before that, the auction is set to occur on the 18th of February in Chennai.
