South African batting stalwart Faf du Plessis is likely to be fit and ready to go for Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) game against Mumbai Indians (MI) on September 19. Du Plessis had sustained a groin injury while playing for St. Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) last week.
He is expected to recover in time. The 37-year-old didn’t play in the last two games for the Kings’ side. This comes as good news for the Chennai franchise since the opening pair of du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad have excelled at the top for the side.
Huge Boost For CSK As Faf du Plessis’ Return All But Confirmed For IPL 2021 2nd Leg
“We are still not in a position to comment on Du Plessis’ availability status till our medical team and physio (Tommy Simsek) examine the extent of the injury. We can take a call once they ascertain the damage,” a source said.
Reports also confirmed that the Protean will take a week’s rest before assessing his fitness. Du Plessis along with Imran Tahir and Dwayne Bravo will arrive in the UAE on September 16, Thursday. It will be a bubble-to-bubble transfer for the trio (CPL to IPL) so they will not need to undergo quarantine.
Du Plessis amassed 320 runs in seven matches before the IPL 2021 got postponed mid-way. He averaged 64, all the while maintaining a strike rate in the mid 140s. He will once again be pivotal to MS Dhoni-led CSK’s chances going into the second leg of the tournament in the UAE.
England all-rounder Sam Curran on the other hand, is likely to miss the first game against MI. He hasn’t joined the CSK camp in Dubai yet. Since it isn’t a bubble-to-bubble transfer, he will be subject to a mandatory quarantine period of six days before joining the squad.
