At the end of the first half of IPL 2021, Rajasthan Royals sit at fifth position on the points table. They have secured three wins in 7 matches thus far in the competition. They made an emphatic start to the season after securing two wins out of the first three games. However, performances saw a dip thereafter.

An inconsistent run from Jos Buttler had a severe effect at the top of the order. Add to that, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer’s unavailability made matters worse for them. The duo will continue to be unavailable for the second leg. Jos Buttler has also opted out of the second leg of the tournament due to the birth of his second child. New Zealand T20 star, Glenn Phillips has been added as his replacement.

Philips is currently plying his trade for Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League which begins next week in the West Indies. The New Zealand batsman is scheduled to join the Royals squad in the UAE on September 19. He has played 25 T20 internationals for New Zealand, scoring 506 runs at an average of 28.1.

Nevertheless, RR have a good chance of reaching the playoffs. The onus would be on the likes of Sanju Samson, Chris Morris, and David Miller to name a few to keep the team in good stead. Liam Livingstone’s outstanding form will also come as a big boost for them.

RR is likely to depart for UAE to start their preparatory camp by the end of this month. Sanju Samson and Co. will begin their second leg campaign in UAE against Punjab Kings on September 21 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They will be playing three games at Dubai International Cricket Stadium and two each at Sharjah and Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium.
