Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) signed Sri Lankan cricketer Wanindu Hasaranga in their squad on Saturday for the second leg of IPL 2021. Former Indian cricketer and active commentator Aakash Chopra has termed this as a phenomenal inclusion.
The Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore singed Wanindu Hasaranga as a replacement to Adam Zampa. The right-arm Aussie spinner Adam Zampa had pulled out of IPL 2021 during the first half due to personal reasons and is also not going to participate in the UAE leg.
Hasaranga recently came to the limelight with his performance during India vs Sri Lanka T20I series in July. The right-arm spinner picket 4 wickets for just 9 runs in the final T20I encounter, which helped Sri Lanka to win the match by 7 wickets after bowling out India for just 82 runs. The leg spinner also emerged as the player of the tournament during India vs Sri Lanka T20I series, which Sri Lanka won 2-1.
I Think Wanindu Hasaranga Is A Phenomenal Inclusion For RCB, Says Aakash Chopra
While speaking about RCB’s latest signings in his YouTube video, Aakash Chopra called Wanindu Hasaranga a phenomenal inclusion for RCB. Chopra also said that RCB can play Hasaranga along with spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in matches.
“Adam Zampa is not there, so they have taken Hasaranga for him. Interestingly enough, there was a doubt about his availability earlier and was thus not picked in the auction. But everyone believed that he should have been picked because he has done well whenever he has played T20 cricket, whether for his country or otherwise.” Chopra said.
“He did an amazing job in Sri Lanka. He was contributing in every match he played. So Hasaranga I think is a phenomenal inclusion. If you want, you can play Hasaranga along with Chahal. You can go in with two wrist spinners,” the 43-year-old further added.
Other than Wanindu Hasaranga, Royal Challengers Bangalore has also singed Dushmantha Chameera and Tim David. While Chameera has replaced Kane Richardson, Tim David has been singed in the absence of Daniel Sams. Like Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera is also a Sri Lankan cricketer. Tim David is a Singapore-based Australian cricketer.
