IPL 2022: 'It Came As A Surprise' Glenn Maxwell Recalls AB De Villiers' IPL Retirement

In November of last year, AB de Villiers declared his retirement from all forms of cricket, ending his affiliation with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, with whom he continued to play after retiring from international cricket.
Maxwell, a former teammate of de Villiers, said in an interview that the news of de Villiers’ retirement surprised him since he expected he’d play another year. The return of Glenn Maxwell, who is eligible to play in his first game of the season, will also help Bangalore.
The power-hitter has remembered entering the team in 2021 and spending the changing room with Kohli and AB de Villiers, as he looks to repay the group’s faith in him.
“We understand how AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli are like two peas in a pod.” They’re close together. At times, I tried to shuffle in between Ab and Virat, pulling them away from one other. However, it was a pleasure to see the two geniuses go about their business last year and to become friends with them. Maxwell noted on RCB’s official YouTube channel, “That was the major thing I got out last year.”

Maxwell recalling how de Villiers’ retirement left him speechless,
“It was a bit of a shock when AB de Villiers announced his retirement because I had assumed he’d play one more year and do all we’ve come to expect from him. He’s still a celebrity, he’s still playing our parts for us, and he’s still setting the bar high. It’s also fantastic to have in your locker area ” Glenn Maxwell remarked.
Maxwell was selected by Bangalore for a whopping 14.25 crore in the 2021 season after scoring just 108 runs with Punjab Kings in the 2020 version.
