A record 10 cricketers from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have been shortlisted for the forthcoming IPL auction. The mini auction for the 2024 edition of the IPL will be held in Dubai on December 19.
As per reports, the IPL franchises have shown interest in the 10 players and they could get a chance to play in the lucrative competition next year. The players from Jammu & Kashmir who will be up for grabs are Mujtaba Yousuf, Rasikh Salam, Parvez Rasool, Qamran Iqbal, Fazil Rashid, Henan Malik, Abid Mushtaq, Nasir Lone, Auqib Nabi and Vivrant Sharma.
Jammu & Kashmir players eye lucrative IPL deal:
Out of the 10 players, Rasikh Salam and Parvez Rasool have the experience of playing in the tournament. In 2019, Rasikh played one match for Mumbai Indians at the age of 17 years and 353 days and became the youngest player to make his debut for the franchise.
But few weeks later, the BCCI banned him for two years following a discrepancy with his birth certificate. In 2022, he was signed up by Kolkata Knight Riders and played two matches before being released. Parvez Rasool, on the other hand, is the first cricketer from Jammu & Kashmir to play in the IPL. He earned his maiden IPL contract in 2013 from now-defunct Pune Warriors. So far, he has played 8 games with his last appearance coming in 2016.
Mujtaba Yousuf had been a net bowler with Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. As per reports, he could get an IPL contract from one of the two teams. The likes of Abid Mushtaq, Auqib Nabi and Nasir Lone have all been called for trials by various franchisees.
At present, two cricketers from Jammu & Kashmir have an IPL contract – Abdul Samad and Umran Malik. Both the players are plying their trade for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Overall, 590 players have been shortlisted for the IPL auction this time.
