Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be entering the IPL 2024 as the defending champions and they have a very strong squad with the legendary MS Dhoni still leading the side. CSK were good in the auctions and made the third most expensive purchase in this auction buying Daryl Mitchell for a whopping 14.00 crores. The Chennai-based franchise already had a very strong squad and now it looks formidable after the auctions.
Chennai Super Kings also made the most expensive uncapped purchase buying Uttar Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi for 8.40 crores. CSK was in a tough bidding war with Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) for the 20-year-old batter from Meerut and ended up buying him for 8.40 crores. They also got Mustafizur Rahman for 2 crores and New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra for 1.50 crores.
CSK now has four players from New Zealand and they are Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, and Mitchell Santner. The Chennai-based franchise also has a good bunch of all-rounders in Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shivam Dube. With MS Dhoni leading the side, Chennai Super Kings can look forward to another successful year, defending the title.
CSK was the first team in the IPL to use an impact player substitute and it was Tushar Deshpande who replaced Ambati Rayudu as the impact substitute in the opening match of IPL 2023 which was between CSK and GT. It will be interesting to see which players will find themselves playing the role of an impact player for CSK in the IPL 2024. Chennai Super Kings have a lot of able players who can fit in the role of the impact substitute for the franchise.
IPL 2024: 3 Players That CSK Can Use As An Impact Player In The Tournament
1. Tushar Deshpande:
Tushar Deshpande can be used as an impact substitute for CSK as he has been one of the regular substitutes in the IPL 2023 and CSK is a team that believes in maintaining a constant strategy. Tushar Deshpande was the leading wicket-taker for CSK in the last season taking 21 wickets in 16 matches for the franchise. He is an able fast bowler with good wicket-taking abilities. However, his economy might be a concern for the team.
2. Ajinkya Rahane:
Ajinkya Rahane made quite a reputation as a T20 batter during the last season with his quickfire innings against Mumbai Indians where he scored 61 off just 27 balls in a match. He is a great impact player option for the franchise as he can bat at different positions and has a knack for batting according to the circumstances. Rahane is also an able leader and can also be considered by the franchise to lead the side in case Dhoni is not available for some matches.
3. Shivam Dube:
With the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, and Mustafizur Rahman already present in the squad, it is unlikely that Shivam Dube will be used for his bowling. However, the youngster has a good skill of batting down the order and can hit a few massive ones when required. He can be used as an impact player for CSK for his power-hitting down the order.
