IPL 2024 Auction: Aakash Chopra Predicts The Team That Will Go After Shah Rukh Khan

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra analyzed the Gujarat Titans’ potential strategy for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction. Chopra suggested that the team might target a finisher like Shahrukh Khan to strengthen their batting lineup for the next season.

The Gujarat Titans entered the auction with the highest purse of INR 38.15 crore after trading skipper Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians in an all-cash transaction. The 2022 IPL champions can acquire eight cricketers, including two foreign players, in the mini-auction.

A Few Problems In Batting – Aakash Chopra

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra expressed concerns about the Gujarat Titans’ middle order and emphasized the importance of adding depth to their lineup by acquiring Shahrukh Khan.

“They could have a few problems in batting. Wriddhiman Saha, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan play as the top three. It’s good Kane Williamson will also be available here. After that, Vijay Shankar, Abhinav Manohar, David Miller and Matthew Wade,” Chopra said.

“It looks alright but it’s better if they get one more batter. I feel they need a batter like Shahrukh Khan, a finisher-type batter, because just in case Wriddhiman Saha doesn’t do well, they can get Sai Sudharsan or Kane Williamson to open,” he added.

GT Do Need To Shop For Fast Bowlers – Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator suggested that the Gujarat Titans should strengthen their fast-bowling department, recommending a few overseas pacers as potential acquisitions to address the issue.

“In fast bowling, they have Darshan Nalkande, Mohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Joshua Little. They are slightly light on the faster bowling and you need bowlers who can move the ball around under lights in Gujarat. So they do need to shop for fast bowlers,” Chopra further stated.

“They released Lockie Ferguson a year ago and have let Alzarri Joseph also go now. A lot of new names will be available in the auction. If they want, they can pick anyone among Mitchell Starc, Lockie Ferguson, Josh Hazlewood, Ben Dwarshuis, Dilshan Madushanka and Gerald Coetzee,” he concluded.

Shubman Gill has been named the captain of the team, succeeding Hardik Pandya, who returned to his former franchise. Despite expectations for Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan to be the frontrunners for the role, the team management backed Gill as the captain.
