Chennai’s favourite son MS Dhoni will be returning to action soon. The captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is all set to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, which is expected to be played in the months between March and May in India.

MS Dhoni, 40, potentially will be playing his last season in the league in 2024. It was almost certain that he would retire after the 2023 season after Chennai Super Kings won their fifth title. However, he decided to give a return gift to his fans and confirmed that he would push himself to play one more season in the league.

However, Chennai Super Kings want the most successful captain MS Dhoni to continue even beyond the upcoming season. One of the officials of the team revealed that team management and even owners want him to continue for a while.

The official said that although he hasn’t talked to MS Dhoni for a while but the skipper will join the team in the first week of March. He also revealed when will the team star the preparations. While speaking to RevSportz, he explained:

“I haven’t spoken to him of late. But we would love to see him continue. He will come to Chennai and start training (with the team) in the first week of March.”

There have been a lot of speculations about the future of MS Dhoni in the league. But Chennai Super Kings owner N Srinivasan has cleared that as long as keeper-batter wants to play, he can because the captain has been not only been a cricketer but has been a family of the team and the bond between them is unbreakable. Speaking after IPL win in 2023, he stated:

“As long as he (Dhoni) wants to play.” Dhoni is not just the captain and a cricketer of CSK, he is family. The bond is seemingly unbreakable.”

There has been no doubt about the ability of MS Dhoni as a player. But his fitness isn’t allowing him to be as he was earlier. Last season too, he struggled a lot with his knee and then recently underwent knee surgery. With him being 40, it remains to be seen how he goes about his future.

IPL 2024: “We have had succession plans for MS for about 10 years,” Stephen Fleming on MS Dhoni

Stephen Fleming recently spoke about the future of MS Dhoni in the league. He stated that they have had succession plans for keeper batter over the last 10 years. He admitted that once the batter leaves, it will be a talking point. He had said:

“We have had succession plans for MS for about 10 years. It is going to be a talking point, but he is as engaged and as enthusiastic as I have seen him for a while. While that passion is there for the team and franchise, we will roll on.”

MS Dhoni was recently seen practicing for the IPL. Following his surgery, he was seen batting first time and would be raring to take the field. All the eyes will be on him as he will take the pitch for the next edition of the league.
