Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has made a bold claim ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction. He backed Tamil Nadu power-hitter Shahrukh Khan to get at least ₹12 or ₹13 crore in for the next edition of the league.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) released Shahrukh Khan ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. The Tamil Nadu batter was acquired by the franchise for INR ₹9 crore at the IPL 2022 auction. He played some good cameos in the two editions that he played for the team in the league.

Shahrukh Khan in IPL 2023 played all 14 games for PBKS and scored 156 runs at a strike rate of 165.96. With PBKS acquiring him for a whopping amount ahead of the IPL 2022, it wasn’t expected that they would release him. But he didn’t fit in the squad and hence team let go of him.

Shahrukh Khan will now be up for bids in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. The event will take place in Dubai on 19th December. With the kind of power-hitting ability that he provides down the order, it’s fair to say that he will be under the radar of some big teams.

Ravichandran Ashwin feels that there will be a bidding war between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans for Shahrukh Khan. He explained why he would be in demand and predicted that he might get a big price. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:

“I can definitely see a war between CSK and GT for Shahrukh Khan because Gujarat have just lost middle batter/finisher Hardik and they need a power player. Shahrukh was at the Punjab Kings at ₹9 crores, and I felt he showed his skills pretty well. Is it a decent release? Because I think he is going to go for at least ₹12 or ₹13 crore again.”

IPL 2024: CSK might even take a chance of missing out on Mitchell Starc to get Shahrukh Khan – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin further added that Chennai Super Kings might prefer Shahrukh Khan over Mitchell Starc because they have don’t have a local player in their team. He elaborated:

“CSK might even take a chance of missing out on Mitchell Starc to get Shahrukh Khan because they don’t have a local player or a presence. They went for Shahrukh Khan in the mega auction, and that’s why I’m guessing so.”

Chennai Super Kings notably was interested in buying Shahrukh Khan in the IPL 2022 auction. They raised the bid up to 8.75 crores before Punjab Kings acquired his services for INR 9 crores.
