The highly-anticipated auction for the next season of the Indian Premier League is just over a week away. The much-awaited event is scheduled to take place on December 19 in Dubai. All ten IPL franchises have already submitted the list of retained and released players and will be looking to strengthen their squad in the upcoming auction.
As many as 1,166 players have registered themselves for the auction. Out of the 1,166 registered players, 830 are Indian players while the remaining 336 are overseas players. The list features 212 capped, 909 uncapped, and 45 Associate players. Some notable names who will go under the hammer are Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Daryl Mitchell, and Rachin Ravindra.
Another name likely to attract interest from franchises in the auction is Jason Holder, the former West Indies captain. He has been playing in the IPL since 2013. Although the veteran allrounder failed to play in the IPL from 2017 to 2019, he has been a regular since 2020.
Jason Holder picks his preferred IPL teams:
While only time will reveal Jason Holder’s fate as far as playing in IPL 2024 is concerned, the West Indies star has revealed the names of two IPL franchises he would like to play for. Speaking to ANI, he said he has been part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and that it would be nice to return to either of the two teams.
“The T20 cricket you play leading up to a World Cup is always beneficial. Definitely, the IPL being played before the T20 World Cup would help. It will help the players prepare mentally as well,” Jason Holder told ANI.
“I have had a good time with Sunrisers (Hyderabad) and Chennai (Super Kings) as well. One of those two teams would be nice to go back to but it is not in my hands,” he added.
While Holder plied his trade for CSK in 2013, he was bought by SRH in 2014. He also joined SRH in 2020 as an injury replacement for Mitchell Marsh. In the last IPL, he plied his trade for Rajasthan Royals.
