The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold its 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, September 29, in Bengaluru. The main focus point of the Annual General Meeting will be to elect two representatives for the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings, as per PTI.

The upcoming AGM is particularly important because the ICC will host a meeting in Dubai after the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, which concludes on October 20. Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, will remain in his position until that date and is set to become the ICC chairman starting December 1.

Jay Shah Elected Unopposed As The New ICC Chairman

Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the new ICC chairman last month. He will be the youngest person to hold this position in the history of the ICC. As Shah prepares to join the ICC, discussions about successors are ongoing, but finding a successor for Shah is not part of the current meeting agenda.

After Sourav Ganguly's tenure as the president, Shah took on the role of representing India in ICC discussions, with his last appearance in Colombo earlier this July. The current BCCI president, Roger Binny, holds the position of Alternate Director for ICC meetings but rarely performs this duty.

With a year remaining in his term, it's unclear whether Roger Binny will remain as the Alternate Director or if another candidate will be nominated for the position at the upcoming AGM.

GCA Top Official Frontrunner To Replace Jay Shah As BCCI Secretary

The AGM doesn't officially include the selection of a new BCCI secretary, but there are likely to be discussions about potential successors for Jay Shah. Anil Patel and Rohan Jaitley are contenders to succeed Shah in the BCCI. A formal decision is anticipated at a future Special General Meeting.

Anil Patel, the secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, is set to become the next BCCI secretary following Jay Shah's departure, as per a report in PTI. Rohan Jaitley, the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association and son of the late Arun Jaitley, was also considered a contender.

The AGM will not only focus on electing representatives but also approve the induction of a representative from the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) and two from the General Body.

The AGM will appoint sub-committees like the Cricket Committee and approve the annual budget for the 2024-25 season. The meeting will also review a report from the board's internal committee established under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy.

The IPL Governing Council meeting is set to take place on Saturday evening and primarily focuses on retention rules for the upcoming IPL 2025 auction. After considering feedback from team owners, the board may finalize a plan allowing five player retentions with one Right to Match option (RTM) per team.
