Out-of-favour India fast-bowler Umesh Yadav has expressed his disappointment over going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Not many were expecting the pacer to go unsold in the auction but he failed to attract a single bid.

Yadav has been playing in the IPL since the 2009 season and has not missed a single season since then. He started his IPL career with Delhi Capitals and hit the ground running, impressing one and all with his pace. The performance in his debut IPL season also helped Umesh Yadav earn his maiden call-up from the Indian team in 2010.

He won the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 while also plying his trade for two other franchises - Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans. In IPL 2024, Umesh Yadav was a part of the Titans camp. He played 7 games last season and picked up 8 wickets.

Experienced fast-bowlers especially the Indian pacers usually attract a lot of interest in the auction. However, all the ten franchises decided against going for Umesh Yadav in the mega auction. And the senior pacer has admitted that the failure to secure an IPL contract has shocked him.

He did not shy away from expressing his disappointment, saying that he felt bad. The Vidarbha star also went on to say that he is 'disturbed and frustrated' over what happened in the mega auction.

"Everyone knows that I wasn’t selected for the IPL this year. I have been playing for 15 years. It (unsold at IPL 2025) is very shocking for me. Why should I lie? It feels bad. After playing so much and playing close to 150 IPL matches, you don’t get selected. It’s shocking," Umesh Yadav told Inside Sport.

"It’s upon the franchises and their strategies, or my name came late in the auction, and they weren’t left with money. Regardless, something has happened. I am very frustrated and disturbed. But still, it’s okay. I can’t change anyone’s decision," he added.

I’ll quit cricket myself: Umesh Yadav

Speaking further, Yadav made it clear that he still has a lot of cricket left in him. After undergoing leg surgery earlier this year, he said that he is determined to bounce back and said that he would quit cricket by himself the day he feels he won't be able to bowl.

"After that, I had my leg surgery. Till I feel I can clock 140 kmph, I will bowl. When I won’t be able to bowl, I’ll quit cricket myself. I won’t have to tell this to anyone," said Umesh Yadav.

Umesh has also lost his place in the Indian team. He last represented Team India during the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia. His last competitive game for Vidarbha came in November last year.
