In a recent development, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) have suffered an injury setback weeks before the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the T20 tournament, and SunRisers have named a South African all-rounder as his replacement.

Brydon Carse sustained a toe injury during the match against Afghanistan in the ICC Champions Trophy. Carse recorded figures of 1/69 in his seven overs and scored just eight runs with the bat. Brydon Carse was ruled out of the ICC 50-over tournament, where England faced a group-stage exit.

Brydon Carse Ruled Out of IPL 2025 Due to Injury

On Thursday, March 6, the IPL issued a statement on its official website confirming that Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the tournament. Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder as a replacement for the injured Carse for the IPL 2025 season.

"Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) picked Wiaan Mulder as a replacement for Brydon Carse for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Carse is ruled out of the TATA IPL 2025 due to an injury and his replacement Mulder, who is an all-rounder, will join SRH for INR 75 Lakh," the statement read.

Wiaan Mulder brings valuable experience to the Sunrisers. He has played 11 T20Is for South Africa, taking eight wickets at an average of 24.37, and scoring 105 runs at a strike rate of 116.66. The Proteas cricketer has the ability to contribute with both bat and ball, which will add balance to the team.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Finished as Runners-Up Under Pat Cummins in IPL 2024

The Sunrisers Hyderabad had a strong IPL 2024, finishing as runners-up under Pat Cummins. Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, SRH retained key players like Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, and Travis Head.

At the auction, they purchased Ishan Kishan, Mohammad Shami, and Harshal Patel, along with spinners Adam Zampa and Rahul Chahar. However, it’s unlikely both spinners will play together due to team balance concerns.

The team boasts a solid top six in batting and a capable bowling attack. Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis is expected to fill the No.7 role, despite being relatively new to the T20 format. The addition of Wiaan Mulder would address one of their main concerns.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Set to Kick Off Their IPL 2025 Campaign on March 23

The Sunrisers will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign with a match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 23 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. This game will be a rematch of last year's Qualifier 2, where SRH triumphed and advanced to the final, only to lose to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

SRH will face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their second match on March 27 at home. The team will face Delhi Capitals (DC) in Vizag on March 30. A highly anticipated match with KKR will take place on April 3 at Eden Gardens, a repeat of the IPL 2024 final. The two teams will meet again on May 10 in Hyderabad.
