The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the retention rules for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) mega auction soon. According to Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to officially announce the rules for the upcoming auction in the next few hours.

The IPL 2025 mega auction is expected to take place overseas in the third or fourth week of November. The venue is anticipated to be in the Middle East, with possible locations including Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Saudi Arabia, which have expressed interest in hosting the event.

Last year's IPL auction took place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. Australia pacer Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in the history of the IPL auction. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured him for Rs 24.75 crore. The retention rules for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction are yet to be revealed.

IPL Governing Council Set To Take Place On Saturday, September 28 - Report

As per Cricbuzz, the IPL Governing Council is set to meet today to finalize the new retention rules for IPL 2025. An official announcement regarding these rules is expected within the next 24 hours, or as soon as Saturday. A formal decision is expected to be released shortly after the meeting concludes.

"The meeting of the Governing Council of the IPL has been scheduled for Saturday (September 28). If sources are to be believed, it will take place at 11.30 AM at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru,” a report by Cricbuzz said.

"It was a last-minute decision to call for the IPL GC on Saturday as the notices for the meeting were sent only on Friday evening to the members. An announcement can always be expected after the meeting."

The report added that the IPL GC is expected to discuss retention policies. The council will also decide on the date and venue for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auction. However, there is a perception that the decision may be put before the all-important general body that meets in Bengaluru on Sunday.

The BCCI Likely To Allow Five Retentions Per Franchise for IPL 2025 Mega Auction

There's a lot of speculation about player retentions for the IPL, with numbers being discussed ranging from 2 to 8. BCCI is likely to finalize around 5 or 6, including the Right to Match (RTM) option. In July, the BCCI met with IPL team owners to discuss various league-related matters, including retentions.

The current IPL format, introduced in 2022 with the addition of two new teams, each of the 10 teams plays 14 matches during the league stage. However, not all teams compete against each other twice. A total of 74 matches will be played in the tournament, including the knockout matches and the finals.
