The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction has been doing rounds ever since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the retention policy for the event. The venue for the bidding event remains one of the major topics and has kept many speculating.
Amid all the fuss, a fresh set of reports in Cricbuzz has hinted about a possible venue for the IPL auction. It is learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking at a possible venue in Singapore to stage the event apart from Saudi Arabia.
IPL 2025 auction is scheduled to take place in the last week of November
The IPL auction is scheduled to take place in the last week of November. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly has been looking at quite a few venues to stage the venue. Earlier reports claimed that Saudi Arabia is the preferred choice to host the bidding event.
It was reported earlier that the BCCI also looked at Dubai, but they are keen to stage the event in Saudi Arabia. However, they are finding it hard to host the IPL 2025 auction in Saudi. This is because according to them the costs there are higher than in Dubai, where the previous auction, in December 2023, was held.
Saudi is proving out to be challenging due to high prices to host the IPL 2025 auction
Not only Dubai and Saudi Arabia but the BCCI also considered London as the venue to host IPL 2025. However, they didn't go ahead with it as hosting the event in cold weather in the UK in late November will prove to be challenging, and hence, Saudi became the prime venue.
But with Saudi also proving out to be challenging due to high prices, Singapore also has emerged as one of the prime venues. It won't be a surprise if the BCCI ends up hosting the IPL auction in Singapore during the last week of November.
The BCCI wants a venue where not only can they host the IPL 2025 auction for two days but also accommodate the entire IPL entourage. This includes the 10 franchise delegations and a large entourage involving two broadcasters - Jio and Disney Star.
IPL 2025 auction retention policy was recently announced by the BCCI
The retention policy for the IPL 2025 auction was recently announced by the BCCI. This time around, the governing body has brought in some major changes, which have happened for the first time in the history of the tournament.
Each of the 10 franchises can retain 6 players, which also includes the Right To Match (RTM) provision. This is the highest number of retentions teams will be allowed in the history of the tournament. Earlier BCCI allowed only 4 players in the previous auction.
Not only this, BCCI has time around and has given a whopping amount of purse to the teams. All 10 franchises will be given a purse of INR 120 crores, which is the highest in the tournament's history. There also will be no restriction on how many Indian or foreign players to be retained. Also, if a team retains just three players, they will be given RTM cards for the auction
