What Forced BCCI To Make The IPL 2025 Revised Schedule?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was suspended on May 9 for one week, and in the official announcement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mentioned that the details of the new venue and new dates would be released soon.

This happened a day after the 58th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) was called off on Thursday, May 8, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala after just 10.1 overs.

The match was called off because Pakistan launched a cowardly attack on several Indian cities, including Pathankot, which is just 90 km away from the Dharamsala stadium. A blackout was enforced in the city, and the players, as well as the crowd, were evacuated from the stadium.

Notably, cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan arose after Pakistani terrorists attacked tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, killing 26 innocent people, and India launched Operation Sindoor to take revenge for the lives lost by destroying nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Will Overseas Players Return For IPL 2025?

As the IPL 2025 Revised Schedule has been announced, the biggest point of concern currently is regarding the return of the overseas players, who have already left India.

After the suspension was announced, most of the foreign players decided to travel back to their home countries, while there were some players who decided to extend their stay in India.

Australia National Cricket Team star players like Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will reportedly not come back for the Indian Premier League 2025. And the other Aussie cricketer will also not be pressured to participate in the rest of the competition, as Cricket Australia has offered to defend them if they choose not to go to India.

Notably, the BCCI is powerless in this situation as they can't take any action on players skipping IPL 2025 because the force majeure contractual clause excuses individuals/parties from fulfilling their contracts in case of an extraordinary event that is beyond their control.
