Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is all set to announce their captain for the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As per the reports in RevSportz, it is learned that the franchise will be making the announcement of their new captain on Monday (20th January).

The reports added that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) principal owner and Chairman of the RPSG Group, Sanjiv Goenka, will be attending the special press conference at the RPSG headquarters in Kolkata on Monday. This will be massive news in the context of the future of the team.

In another report by the IANS, it is learned that some franchise officials that there are chances of having two things in the press conference. First, the announcement of a new LSG captain or unveiling of the franchise's new jersey. This is because some of the players will be in attendance too.

Lucknow Super Giants had a great outing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, which took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise picked some big players in the auction including Rishabh Pant, who became the costliest buy in history.

The need for the captain arose after the franchise opted to part ways with KL Rahul. The India National Cricket Team batter was the captain of the team since 2022, and under him, the team reached the playoffs twice before having a League stage finish last year.

But this time around they have quite a few options to pick from. Rishabh Pant, who was captain of the Delhi Capitals for the last few seasons, is expected to be the top contender. Along with him, there is Nicholas Pooran, who was the vice-captain last year, Australia T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh and South Africa T20I captain Aiden Markram.

It is likely that the franchise might go with Rishabh Pant as the captain because of him being the big name in Indian cricket. Also with his experience as the captain of Delhi Capitals, the keeper-batter will likely be given the role in his new franchise as well.

During the last press conference, Lucknow Super Giants unveiled former India left-arm fast-bowler Zaheer Khan as the side's new mentor. The franchise has made some brilliant editions this time around both in player setup as well as coaching setup.

It won't be a surprise if they go ahead this time around and go on to win the title. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kick start in the latter half of March, and the BCCI is soon expected to announce the squad as well.
