Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has recovered well after twisting his ankle on the opening day of Madhya Pradesh’s Elite Group C away match against Kerala. According to a report by Sportskeeda, Venkatesh Iyer’s condition is fine, and he is doing alright despite not taking the field on Day 2.

Iyer came to bat at No. 6 in the 18th over his team was struggling at 49/4 against Kerala. However, he faced only three deliveries before leaving the field due to discomfort from an ankle twist. Iyer was assisted off the field by the physiotherapist and reserve players, triggering concern among fans.

Venkatesh Iyer's Nasty-Ankle Twist Not Serious - Report

The report states that Venkatesh Iyer's ankle injury is not serious, and he is recovering well. The 30-year-old did not take the field on Friday, January 24, as a precautionary measure, but there are no major injury concerns.

Madhya Pradesh was struggling at 50 for 4, with their key middle-order batter injured, and their situation worsened to 95 for 7. However, Venkatesh Iyer bravely returned to bat despite his injured ankle.

He took on the challenge and managed to hit a six and a four off left-arm spinner Aditya Sarvate. Iyer shared a 43-run partnership for the ninth wicket with pacer Avesh Khan, helping MP reach a competitive total of 160. He was dismissed off NP Basil for 42 runs off 80 balls, including two fours and one six.

KKR Optimistic That Venkatesh Iyer's Injury Is Not Severe

With less than two months until the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are optimistic that the injury is not severe. Iyer was acquired for ₹23.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction and was the third-highest-priced player. He played a key role in KKR's title victory in 2024.

The 30-year-old has been a key player for the Knight Riders since joining the team in 2021. He scored 370 runs in his debut season. In 2024, Iyer scored 370 runs in 13 innings at a remarkable strike rate of 158.79. Overall, he has amassed 1,326 runs at a strike rate of 137.12, with one century and 11 fifties.

Venkatesh Iyer and MP's Performance in Ranji Trophy 2024-25

Madhya Pradesh has faced a tough start in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, sitting sixth in their group with just 10 points from five matches. they failed to secure first-innings leads in three consecutive draws. MP bounced back by beating Bihar by an innings and 108 runs.

Venkatesh played a crucial role in that victory, scoring 174 runs off 176 balls. MP came close to chasing down 338 against Bengal but fell short by just 12 runs. Iyer scored 53 runs off 95 balls in that fourth innings. Overall, he has scored 330 runs across seven matches, with an impressive average of 47.14.
