Past Performances and IPL Titles of Rajasthan Royals
The Rajasthan Royals is one of those teams that looks strong on paper every year but fails to deliver good performances on a consistent basis, a prime example of which was on show during the last season when the team lost a lot of matches from a winning position.
2008-2013
RR stunned everyone by lifting the trophy in the first season of the league, led by Shane Warne, with a number of inexperienced players at the helm.
It was a complete team effort with lesser-known players like Ravindra Jadeja and Swapnil Asnodkar leading the charge along with experienced players like Mohammad Kaif and the captain, Shane Warne.
The bowling department of the team was handled by Sohail Tanvir, who emerged as the highest wicket-taker for the eventual champions.
However, the team wasn't able to maintain consistency in its performances and did not make the knockouts in 2009 and 2010, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively
The same story was followed till 2012, and the Rajasthan Royals had to wait till 2013 to qualify for the playoffs
2014-2019
Come 2014, RR fell short of the Mumbai Indians on net run rate despite both teams having the same number of points to book a spot in the top four, courtesy of a last-ball six from Aditya Tare that changed the equation.
Rajasthan Royals have had the resources that can do the job for the team, but they have failed to click as a unit on quite a few occasions.
Having said that, 2015 was the year when RR put its best foot forward after falling agonizingly short of a place in the playoffs in 2014 and qualified for the top four.
The team made a strong comeback in 2018 after not being a part of the league in the preceding couple of years and made it to the playoffs once again with 14 points in the bag.
2020-2025
Despite a good performance in the 2018 edition, RR had to wait till 2022 for its next playoff appearance, and this time the team did well by making it all the way to the final against the Gujarat Titans.
As has been the case with RR, the team wasn't able to build on the good performance they delivered in 2022 and made a number of changes to a settled squad, which resulted in lackluster performances in the last three editions.
Players Retained by Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals need to find a captain for the upcoming season, having traded former skipper Sanju Samson. The team is expected to bank on a youngster to lead the side in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, or Riyan Parag.
