Jasprit Bumrah embraces leadership role as first retention for Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of IPL 2025
His early days were marked by the invaluable guidance of Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga, who played a crucial role in shaping his skills and strategies on the field.
Now, as a father to a young son named Angad, Jasprit Bumrah has understood the importance of giving back, and that’s something he wants to give back to the five-time IPL champions.
The Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah recognizes the wealth of knowledge he has amassed over the years and is eager to share it with the new generation of players who are looking up to him.
Bumrah is determined to help youngsters navigate the challenges of professional cricket, just as he was once supported by the legends of the game and led by example at the Mumbai side, inspiring the next generation of cricketers to excel on the big stage.
I'm happy that the journey is continuing: Jasprit Bumrah on re-signing deal with MI
Jasprit Bumrah said in a video posted by the MI: “It feels good. I came here as a 19-year-old teenager, and now I'm going to turn 31. I have a son, so it's been a complete journey. I'm happy that the journey is continuing, and yeah, no better feeling. When I came, all the legends of the game were here, and, you know, I used to ask a lot of questions.
So now, slowly, the role is changing, and a lot of youngsters are coming into our team who are eight-nine years younger than me. I always feel happy to help because I got a lot of help when I started.”
Meanwhile, Bumrah emphasized that the Mumbai Indians (MI) have a strong culture of winning, having clinched the IPL title five times. Since their first IPL title victory in 2013, they have crowned champions in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
Well, Bumrah highlighted the importance of a winning mentality, stating that participation alone isn't enough in sports. The star speedster also expressed appreciation for the support of fans and the electrifying atmosphere at Wankhede Stadium, which adds to the team's winning spirit.
The winning mentality is always: Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah signed off by saying, “The winning mentality is always there because you're playing sport to win. If you are just there to participate, it doesn't really land up well. So, for me, I have a lot of belief in my ability. That's always been the case. When I was a child, I didn't want to be just any cricketer; I wanted to contribute more.
I wanted to do special things. So, I don't look at my overs as gold; I look at my overs as a responsibility. We have been successful in the past, and we know how to win championships. It feels good to know that the crowd is behind you; that experience of playing in Wankhede is always great; that energy, that vibe is a sight to see.”
