Iyer was on fire with the bat, facing only 52 balls to hit 118 runs with the help of 10 boundaries and six sixes, and his strike rate was over 226 runs. The Mumbai captain is unbeaten, already taking the side over 230 runs at the loss of three wickets against Goa at the Gymkhana Ground.
The right-handed batter smashed his third century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, hitting 100 off just 47 balls against Goa, equaling the record for the most centuries in the tournament. This show is certainly a big boost for Iyer to raise his stocks at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten at 130 off just 57 balls against Goa. During his fiery knock, the 29-year-old batter smoked 11 boundaries and 10 maximums to take his Mumbai team to 250/4 on the board in 20 overs against Goa in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.
Prithvi Saw and Ajinkya Rahane flop with the bat against Goa
Apart from the Mumbai captain, the opener Prithvi Saw and Shams Mulani contributed 33 runs and 41 runs, respectively, to the team’s massive total against Goa while the rest of the line-up failed to impress with the bat. Even Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed cheaply for 13 runs.
It was Iyer’s first outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy since the 2022 edition, and his knock will certainly catch the attention of IPL teams more than before at the auction. Shreyas Iyer’s knock could not have come at a more perfect time than a day before the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25.
Shreyas Iyer set to attract big offers at the mega auction
The Mumbai captain has set a base price of INR 2 crore, and he is expected to get a big deal in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Notably, Iyer captained Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to its third IPL title earlier this year, but they are unlikely to go big for the out-of-favor Indian batter at the auction.
Well, Iyer is likely to attract big bids at the upcoming mega auction, and it is being said that his former franchise, Delhi Capitals (DC), is expected to make a big bid for the talented cricketer. Additionally, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are also expected to enter the race with big offers for Iyer at the auction.
