The Indian Premier League (IPL) is often seen as the ultimate dream for cricketers across the world, as the tournament offers both fame and fortune in a wink. But South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has a slightly different view on the IPL recognition.

For Tabraiz Shamsi, national pride outweighs the glitz of the world’s biggest T20 league, and he made his sentiments loud and clear on social media ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, which is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Tabraiz Shamsi's 'crazy coincidence' in T20I stats with Jasprit Bumrah sparks IPL debate

Well, the drama began when Shamsi shared a jaw-dropping coincidence about his T20I stats with India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Both Shamsi and Bumrah have bowled the exact same number of balls in the same number of matches, and even they have taken the same number of wickets in T20Is. Marveling at the stats, Shamsi called it a "crazy coincidence."

Tabraiz Shamsi posted on X: “Fun fact... Jasprit Bumrah and I have played the exact same amount of T20 international games. Bowled the exact same number of balls in those games and taken the exact same amount of wickets! Such a crazy coincidence.”

This post went viral on social media, and one user on X couldn’t resist poking fun at the South African spinner, connecting this post with the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. He was trying to troll Shamsi for deliberately sharing the coincidence with Jasprit Bumrah to get a buyer at the mega auction.

Tabraiz Shamsi last played in the IPL in 2021 for Rajasthan Royals (RR), but he yet again registered himself for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. He is in set number three for the spinner and set a base price of INR 75 lakh for himself at the upcoming mega auction.

The X user commented by saying, “IPL Auction in a week's time. Such a crazy coincidence, eh? @shamsi90 😉”. However, Shamsi wasn’t buying it. The left-arm spinner hits back at the fan by saying that his achievements came from years of hard work and dedication to his country.

Shamsi made it clear that the IPL doesn’t define his career, and he is content with the path his hard work has carved out. He has stressed that he is not someone whose world revolves around the IPL auction and focuses on IPL fame.

Not everyone's world revolves around the IPL auction: Shamsi

While the IPL 2025 mega auction might be the hottest topic among the cricket fraternity presently, the star South African spinner's fiery response showcased that it was not his stunt to grab attention.

Tabraiz Shamsi posted on X: “This happened with over 7 years of hard work and giving my all for my country, so I'm not sure what you're going on about.... eh? Not everyone's world revolves around the IPL auction…I’m pretty content with my life... whatever is written for us will always come to us.”
