The highly-awaited IPL auction 2026 is set to take place this month. The auction is scheduled to take place on December 16 in UAE. While more than 1300 players had registered for the auction, only 350 players have been shortlisted for the main event.

Out of the 350 players, 240 are Indians and 110 are overseas players. There are 77 available slots to fill across all the 10 IPL franchises. 40 players have registered themselves in the highest bracket at INR 2 crore for the IPL auction while 9 players have registered at INR 1.5 crore slot.

While the upcoming auction is not a mega auction, there is absolutely no dearth of excitement as the cricketing world is eagerly waiting to see the intense bidding wars for the players once again.

IPL auction 2026: The player who could go from base price to INR 15+ Crore

While several big names have registered themselves for the IPL auction, speculations are rife that Australia star Cameron Green is likely to be the most expensive buy this year. Green is a fine middle-order batsman and a more than handy medium-pacer.

Allrounders have always been in high demand in the IPL auction and Green is certainly one of the most-sought after allrounders in the world at present.

He has further enhanced his chances of earning a lucrative IPL contract by registering himself in the auction only as a batsman. The reason behind his move is that during the IPL auction, the first set consists of batters before the allrounders and the bowlers are auction. Since the upcoming auction is a mini auction, all the franchises have limited budgets.

They will be going all out for the big names right from the start. And Green has bolstered his chances of earning a mega contract by registering as a batsman.

Cameron Green in IPL so far:

Green is not new to playing in the IPL. In fact, he is also not new to earning lucrative deals in the IPL auction. He earned his maiden IPL contract in the 2023 edition when Mumbai Indians secured his services for INR 17.5 crore. However, he was traded to Royal Challengers Bengaluru a year later for the same price before missing the 2025 edition. In two IPL seasons, Green played 29 matches and scored 707 runs including a century.
