IPL players are forced to play a series of matches under immense pressure. Due to consecutive matches, especially the three-month-long Indian Premier League (IPL), Indian cricketers are facing injuries, and issues related to their fitness are now common these days.

A source in the BCCI's Center of Excellence (CoE) recently made some shocking claims while explaining the real reasons behind multiple injuries in the India National Cricket Team. According to the source, IPL is one of the main reasons behind the players' downgraded fitness.

Indian players forced to play in IPL?

On Sunday, August 9, Vipul Kashyap, an ANI journalist, on his social media post quoted the CoE source. According to the source, players are forced to play in the IPL because of pressure from the franchises and financial reasons. Later, those players are handed over to the CoE physios.

"Players play through injuries during IPL due to franchise and financial pressure and then are dumped onto unsuspecting COE physios, and too much cricket is also the reason that we have players flood here," according to the CoE source.

Back-to-back cricketers injured during IPL 2027

Multiple Team India players were injured during the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) while representing their franchises. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy, Sai Sudharshan, and Riyan Parag were among the few notable names who injured themselves in IPL 2026.

Pandya, who has not featured in any matches for the India National Cricket Team since the start of the 2026 edition of the league, is still recovering from an injury. Bumrah featured shortly for the Indian cricket team before being ruled out again due to injury.

Varun Chakravarthy had a hairline fracture during the previous season of the league. He was visibly in discomfort during a match for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Riyan Parag, the Rajasthan Royals captain, who went soon for a surgery soon after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League. The league ended on May 31, and Parag shared his medical update through an Instagram post on June 11.

Too much cricket could be one of the main reasons behind these injuries

Prince Yadav and Washington Sundar are among the other star cricketers who are currently on the list of injured players who played for India recently after the IPL 2027. The case of Harshit Rana is interesting. He did not feature in IPL 2027 because of an injury, but was injured again after playing a few matches for the Indian cricket team after making a comeback.

There could be multiple reasons behind the prolonged list of injured players; too much cricket could be one of the reasons. With the Indian Premier League on the calendar, where players receive lucrative deals, shorten the duration for recovery for those who are regular for the Indian cricket team.
