IPL 2021 commences next month on April 9, 2021, with the first match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Both the teams will collide against each other at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With IPL 2021, the tournament returns to India after a gap of nearly two years. However, spectators will not be allowed to enter the stadiums in IPL 2021 due to Covid-19 concerns.

Many players have come to the limelight with the Indian Premier League as the tournament is a crucial stage for cricketers to showcase their skills. Over the years, IPL has conferred the emerging player of the year award to many players. The award is given to a young player who impresses everyone with his performance in the tournament.
Many times, debutants have bagged this award, which was known by different titles in the initial editions of the Indian Premier League. IPL: Winners Of Emerging Player Of The Year Award So Far
IPL 2008- Shreevats Goswami
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Shreevats Goswami won the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2008. Shreevats Goswami is a wicket-keeper batsman. He bats left-handed. In IPL 2008, he played 4 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore and scored 82 runs. This also included one fifty. Goswami played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2009 and IPL 2010 too.
IPL 2009- Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma was the winner of the emerging player award in IPL 2009. Rohit Sharma was part of Deccan Chargers in the tournament. Rohit Sharma played 16 matches in IPL 2009 and scored 362 runs. He also scored a fifty. Sharma was also great with the ball. He also scalped 11 wickets from 16 matches in the same season. Due to Rohit Sharma’s brilliant all-rounder performance, he was awarded emerging player of the year in IPL 2009.
IPL 2010- Saurabh Tiwary
Saurabh Tiwary was conferred with the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2010. Saurabh Tiwary was part of the Mumbai Indians in the tournament. The left-handed batsman smashed 419 runs in 16 matches along with 3 half-centuries. He was given the emerging player of the year award for his excellent batting performance.
IPL 2011- Iqbal Abdulla
Bowler Iqbal Abdulla won the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2011. Iqbal Abdulla played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2011 and he was conferred with the award for his spectacular bowling performance. In 15 matches, he scalped 16 wickets for his team. He also had a superb economy of 6.10 in IPL 2011.
IPL 2012- Mandeep Singh
Mandeep Singh was the winner of the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2012. Mandeep Singh played for Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) in IPL 2012. In 16 matches, the right-handed batsman Mandeep Singh scored 432 runs along with 2 half-centuries. Hence, Mandeep Singh was awarded emerging player of the year for his commendable batting in the tournament.
IPL 2013- Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson was the winner of the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2013. It was Sanju Samson’s debut IPL tournament where he played for Rajasthan Royals. Samson played 11 matches and scored 206 runs along with a fifty. Samson impressed everyone with his batting in his debut IPL tournament and hence he was conferred with the emerging player of the year award.
IPL 2014- Axar Patel
Axar Patel played for Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) in his debut IPL season in IPL 2014 and won the emerging player of the year award. The left-arm bowler Axar Patel played 17 matches in the tournament and grabbed 17 wickets. It was a great performance by a debutant bowler in the tournament. Axar also had a great economy of 6.13 while bowling in IPL 2014.
IPL 2015- Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer played his debut IPL season in IPL 2015 for Delhi Capitals. He was conferred with the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2015. The right-handed batsman Shreyas Iyer played 14 matches in the tournament and scored 439 runs. He also smashed 4 half-centuries in the tournament. For his magnificent batting performance, Shreyas Iyer was awarded an emerging player for the year in IPL 2015.
IPL 2016- Mustafizur Rahman
Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman was awarded emerging player of the year in IPL 2016. Mustafizur Rahman played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2016. He scalped 17 wickets in 16 matches. He also had a great economy of 6.90 throughout the season.
IPL 2017- Basil Thampi
Basil Thampi was conferred with the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2017 for his splendid bowling show. The right-arm medium pacer played 11 matches for Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017 and grabbed 11 wickets. It was a great performance to look upon by a debutant in the tournament. Hence, Basil Thampi was awarded emerging player of the year in IPL 2017.
IPL 2018 – Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant won the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2018. The wicket-keeper batsman was part of the Delhi Capitals in the tournament. The left-handed batsman Pant smashed 684 runs in 14 matches. He also hit 5 half-centuries and 1 century in the tournament. Rishabh Pant was also the 2nd highest run-scorer in IPL 2018. For his wonderful batting, Pant was awarded emerging player of the year in IPL 2018.
IPL 2019 – Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill won the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2019 while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. Shubman Gill bagged the limelight with 296 runs in 14 matches. The right-handed batsman Gill also hit 3 half-centuries in the tournament. It was Shubman Gill’s 2nd IPL tournament.
IPL 2020 – Devdutt Padikkal
Devdutt Padikkal won the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2020 for his spectacular batting. Padikkal played his debut IPL season in IPL 2020. The left-handed batsman played as an opener throughout the season and smashed 473 runs in 15 matches. He also smashed 5 half-centuries in IPL 2020. He was the highest run-scorer for his team Royal Challengers Bangalore.
