Ireland and Afghanistan go hea to head in the second T20I in Belfast on August 11. The Irish team won the first T20I by seven wickets and are leading the series 1-0 in the three-match series. Afghanistan needs to win the second game to keep the series alive. The series is important for the Afghan side as they prepare for the Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022.
Ireland chased down Afghanistan’s score of 168 and won the game with a ball to spare in the game. Skipper Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker scored fifties. It was a crucial knock for the Irish skipper who had a run of low scores in the build-up to the series.
“Lot more fun to score runs and get a win. We have been hurting not getting over the line against a few great teams, but today feels good. I thought we bowled pretty well, and chased smartly. Lorcan Tucker played a brilliant knock – a bit of a complete chase” said the Irish skipper.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi lamented the loss after a break in their game after their series against Zimbabwe. He said that the score they posted was below par and something that they will need to work on in the remaining games.
“This is the first game we played as a team in about 1 month, it was quite a good game but we were about 15-20 runs short. Usman played really well, he’s been doing well in the domestice cricket. We need to work on our line and length, first 6 overs we were a bit off” said Nabi after the first T20I loss.
