Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan also spoke out on Pakistan's stance as they put their participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 in uncertainty. After Bangladesh's exit from the tournament, Pakistan threatened to boycott the tournament.

According to Irfan Pathan, Pakistan is not in a position at all to boycott the tournament. As they already agreed to play their T20 World Cup 2026 matches in Sri Lanka, which is a neutral venue.

Pakistan to boycott T20 World Cup 2026 matches?

The upcoming T20 World Cup, starting on February 7, will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Because of the political issues between India and Pakistan, the matches of Pakistan, including the India vs Pakistan match, will be arranged in Sri Lanka.

The flagship tournament of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is scheduled to start on February 7, and the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 match will be on February 15 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Pathan opined that, as Pakistan agreed with the hybrid model, their threat to boycott the tournament makes absolutely no sense.

Utter nonsense from Pakistan: Irfan Pathan

"Utter nonsense from Pakistan after agreeing to the hybrid model—once the terms are accepted, creating fresh boycott drama makes no sense," Irfan Pathan said in an interview with RevSportz.

Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane also raised his voice against Pakistan. Questioning the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) guts, Rahane also felt that Pakistan has no ground to boycott the tournament.

"I don’t think they will do it. They don’t have the guts," Ajinkya Rahane said on Cricbuzz.

Why does the act of drama making zero sense?

What Rahane and Pathan said has valid reasons. As Pathan stated, the hybrid model is formed with the concerns of the Pakistan Cricket Board, so they are liable to maintain their promises.

In case they refuse to play and avoid the contest, the International Cricket Council may not think twice about sanctioning some strict actions against the Pakistan cricket team. Even a ban on the team is not impossible, as the ICC is the supreme governing body of the game.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the circumstances ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. Naqvi informed the media that they are keeping all possibilities on the table, which means they can also consider calling for a boycott.

A few reports also claim that the PCB may not boycott the T20 World Cup 2026 tournament entirely, but they can show their protest by skipping the India vs Pakistan match in Colombo, which is scheduled to take place on February 15.
